Missing or corrupt system32\config

If you get this error on upon booting your system Windows could not start because the following line is missing or corrupted wndows\system32\config\system or windows\system32\config\software

1. Insert and boot from your xp cdrom

2. At the first R= repair option, press the R key.

3. Select the particular installation of windows you wish to repair by choosing the corresponding number.

4. Enter the administrator password for that system.

5. Type cd \ Windows\system32\config

6. Depending which section was bad enter the following: ren software software.bad or ren system system.bad

7. Again depending on which was bad enter the following: copy \windows\repair\system or copy \windows\repair\software

8. Take out the cdrom and type Exit
